Regular Dental Checkups are More Effective Than an Apple a Day

Thinking of putting off your dental check up until next month? Don't do it! Recent studies have shown that people who fail to take care of their teeth through regular dental check ups, brushing, and regular flossing are at a higher risk for heart disease, respiratory infections, and osteoporosis.

In tests conducted by the University of Minnesota, rabbits were injected with the bacteria found in dental plaque. Within minutes the animals' blood began to clot, causing blockages and reducing oxygen flow to their hearts, the exact circumstances that precede some forms of heart attacks.

Similarly, researchers have seen links between poor dental health and a rise in respiratory infections like pneumonia. Studies proved that both low and higher grade infections resulted when mouth bacteria was breathed into the body.
So, next time you think it's ok to put off your dental check up, think again...your overall health could depend upon it.
